Finding Your HEY!
A crash course in braving grief and embracing joy
The year 1999 proved to be a year in which Deborah Covell Fletcher partied less than in any other year, despite what Prince had promised. That year, Deb gave birth prematurely to identical twin girls, one who was born with multiple disabilities. Thus began her crash course in discovering how to access joy and experience happiness amidst grief, everyday struggles, and disappointments.
In Finding Your HEY! Deb reflects on her dad’s experience in recovering from a life-changing stroke and his example in choosing an attitude which brought him much happiness in the rich life he led. She takes inspiration from four of her friends whose words accompany her own story, weaving themes of facing pain, experiencing grief, and finding hope throughout the book.
Deb’s intention in writing this memoir is for you to recognize yourself, find community in these pages, and learn a tactic or two to wring overflowing joy out of life. As a wise man once said, “HEY!”, which means everything is going to be OK.
